The Five of Cups

Well this is a woeful looking card.  The Five of Cups shows a robed man looking despondent with his head bowed and shoulders hunched.  Three of the cups are on their sides in front of him but the two upright ones are behind where he can't see.  The overturned cups have their contents spilled out on the ground.  In front of him there is a flowing river, a bridge and a castle.

This card is indicative of how you feel at the moment.  It's been one of those times when everything seems to have gone wrong and every little upset is magnified out of all proportion.  In fact there seems to have been so many little upsets that these are the only things you are noticing. The spilled cups are showing that you feel as if you have lost something recently that is particularly valuable to you. What you don't see are the two full cups behind you.  There are many blessings in your life and you need to acknowledge them and give thanks for them now. One door may have closed but there are many many doors left.  It might help if you think of some of the positive things that have happened to you today.  It could be anything from hearing a baby's laughter to seeing a glimpse of sunshine between the clouds.  Soon you'll see that your life isn't all about upsets and disasters.

Now that you've started to think of some of the positive things around you try and sit up straight or stand up tall.  Lift your head and straighten your shoulders.  There, just taking a more positive stance helps you to feel better.

You need to do something that will stop you from thinking about your problems. You can start by making some plans for yourself.  Your aim is to cross the bridge and fill your empty cups with whatever you wish and it always helps to have something to look forward to. You must put your loss behind you but that doesn't mean you have to forget.  It just means you have to learn to live with it and start to move on.

Your daily tarot card
There are times when all of us feel that we need some guidance in life, especially when we feel unsure about the path we're taking. A daily tarot card can often help you to see things a bit more clearly. There is no magic in this. What you are doing is drawing on your inner resources and strength. You are using your intuition and the illustration on the card to help you to see things in every possible light. I find that rather than relying on a computer to draw the daily card for me it's best to have an actual deck that I can draw a card from myself. The deck I'm using here is the Universal Rider Waite deck which is easily available online. Some of the auctions are shown below, or for more information visit our Rider Waite page.
