Knight of CupsKnight of Cups

Here we have a fine upstanding young knight mounted on a beautiful white horse. The knight holds a cup in his hand and he’s gazing straight ahead at nothing in particular. The horse has his neck bent and is “Mouthing.” To those who know horses this is a signal of compliance. Horse and knight are at one with each other. The knight is facing a winding river which leads away into the distance. Beyond the river we can glimpse a tall cliff ahead, but in the distance there are hills and trees. The knight has winged spurs and a winged helmet. You get the feeling when looking at this illustration that knight has gone as far as he can for the time being on whatever route has been chosen for him and he is now just sitting contemplating.

The Knight of Cups is a card of intuition and sensitivity. He lives in a world of romance and beauty but sometimes he daydreams a little too much. On the other hand he can sometimes be a bit melodramatic and can let his feelings run away with him. Thus we have a bit of a dual personality for the Knight of Cups.

In readings, if you are worried and stressed about something the Knight may be asking you to be like the winding river and follow your own intuition. He is saying that you need to relax and let go and you will be guided on your way. You may feel that you have come up against an impasse but there is an easier route to achieve your goal. Take your cue from the oneness of the horse and the knight and the gently flowing water. Go with the flow rather than trying swim against the tide. If you’re worried about a relationship don’t push it or try to force it. Allow it to develop naturally or to fade away as the case may be.

Maybe sometimes you are a bit too down to earth and a bit melodramatic, or maybe you are too uptight and refuse to let emotion get in the way. Your head is ruling your heart a little too much. If this is the case then you need to daydream a little and allow some romance and beauty into your life. Try going on your own flight of fantasy and ease up on those who are around you at this time.

If you’re a serial daydreamer already then this card could be telling you that you need to pull yourself up by the bootstraps and be a bit realistic for a change. It isn’t wrong to daydream but there comes a time when you need to work out how to turn those dreams into reality. This card assures you that there is nothing to be afraid of in being practical. You will find your way.

Your daily tarot card
There are times when all of us feel that we need some guidance in life, especially when we feel unsure about the path we're taking. A daily tarot card can often help you to see things a bit more clearly. There is no magic in this. What you are doing is drawing on your inner resources and strength. You are using your intuition and the illustration on the card to help you to see things in every possible light. I find that rather than relying on a computer to draw the daily card for me it's best to have an actual deck that I can draw a card from myself. The deck I'm using here is the Universal Rider Waite deck which is easily available online. Some of the auctions are shown below, or for more information visit our Rider Waite page.
